Meet Khem Kharan!
(pronounced: Came Cooran)
Winnipeg, Canada is known nationally as a hot spot.
Not for the climate but for it's wealth of talented and creative
musicians. The band members you are about to meet nearly define
the so called "A" circuit of musicians in Winnipeg at
any one time. The fact that these talented fellows have found themselves
together in this project is unusual, only because each of them has
many other regular calls of duty across the country as "guns
for hire". As you will find out below, the glue that brought
this hot crew to formation is the leader and guiding light of the
band known as Khem Kharan.
Kenneth Kemkaran
(leader, keyboards, lead vocals) - This thirty something M.D. has been working his own muse since the tender age of 6 years old. Dr. Ken is the force behind this project and although he is little known outside of a close knit musical community in this region, he has the smarts and talent to pull together a crack band, work up some great songs with expressive arrangements, record it all and then release it to the masses. Ken has worked in all styles of music from jazz to pop to the mainstay of working musicians everywhere ... cover bands. While in Toronto between 1979 and 1981 he worked the stages with numerous groups, playing keyboards, sweating the small stuff and learning what works in a live scene. He always had his own songwriting boiling on the back burner, writing and recording while paying the bills doing other folks music at night. In 1991 he released an album with compadre Russ Sloggett entitled Sirensong that satisfied his need to communicate to a larger audience. Post Sirensong he worked regularly with other Winnipeg players, finishing work on another entire album that has yet to be released. All this while commuting from his doctoring studies overseas! The genesis of the current release Language of The Heart was in 1996, laying down ideas and beginning the search for like minded talent to bring his vision to reality. The final piece of the creative puzzle fell neatly into place in 1997 when in-demand Winnipeg producer Paul James started working with Kemkaran on what is now finally available for everyone to enjoy.
Spider Sinnaeve
(Bass) - Canadian rock and roll owes much of its bass thrust to the unignorable talent of Spider. From Tom Cochran to Streetheart and Kim Mitchell, this powerful bassman is a much sought after national league player. Sinnaeve needs no introduction to most music fans and his chest rattling tone is the anchor that roots Language of the Heart. Consistent and inventive, Spider is a main gear in the engine that drives this project.
Steven Broadhurst
(drums) - Liverpudlian sticksman Broadhurst has spent over a decade pounding the beat and if his list of credits is any indication he shows no sign of letting up anytime soon. He has toured with the likes of rockers Sue Medley and Harlequin, contemporary aboriginal act Eagle and Hawk and country star Amanda Stott to name a few. His skillful playing landed him a much-coveted Pearl Drums endorsement, something of a gold star among players of this calibre. He's recorded with disco groups, jazz combos and country rockers, and is in demand at any time as a session demo player. Steve is one of Dr. Ken's main collaborators in songwriting on Language of the Heart.
Randy Hiebert
(Guitar, vocal) - By his mid-teens Hiebert was already playing professionally and has continued his career in music successfully. He has been featured country music bills around the world, touring with such notables as The D Drifters, Ray St. Germain, The Harvey Henry Band, and a very successful stint with the Bellamy Brothers. He has also seen the rock and roll side of life with Harlequin, Idle Eyes as well as folking around with Connie Kaldor. He has been voted "Guitar Player of the Year" twice and for good measure added "instrumentalist of the Year" and "Producer of the Year" all in the early 1990's country music scene. The list continues, but suffice to say that this cat knows which way to face on stage! His flexibility, skill and commitment to quality add immensely to Language of the Heart.
Murray Pulver
(Bio coming soon)
Brent Scott
(Guitar, keyboards, vocals) - This 1993 "Guitar Warz" winner is no stranger to the live stage or the recording studio. Scott is another diverse player with a resume full of both original, concept and cover band experience. When he is not playing guitar his fingers find their way onto another kind of keyboard as a self-employed computer specialist. His flowing riffs and gritty accents grace every track on Language of The Heart.
Randy Booth
(Acoustic guitar, vocals, percussion) - Randy is the more overt rocker of the band with sonorous time spent with Les Pucks, Harlequin, Idle Eyes and Gerry Doucette. For variety he has hit the stages with rock comedians McLean and McLean and aboriginal country acts Keith Secola and Eagle and Hawk. Booth has appeared on over thirty recordings and brings an untold wealth of experience to Language of the Heart.
